It’s all in there

As I have mentioned so many times, the world tries to tell you that you need something.  That’s a lie.  Everything you need (not food, clothing or shelter, of course) is inside you.

The person you are is what you make of yourself.  Like anything the more you practice, the better you get.  If you never try (or practice) you’ll never develop the amazing things that you were born with.  No one can buy tranquility, freedom, will, energy, genius, creativity or any other of the characteristics that are inside you.  You either develop them or you don’t.

Back in the day, when I used to teach, I would do something that seemed quite complicated to students but was simple for me.  Then, I’d look up at them with a wry grin and said, “Of course, I’ve never done that before.”  Immediately the tension abated.  The students knew that, of course I could do that seemingly complicated thing – I was the teacher and had done it countless times before.  I did not, and would, in fact, be surprised, if they could do it in their first hundred tries.

No one does anything perfectly the first time.  But knowing that if you practice looking for whatever it is that is hiding within yourself — you WILL eventually find it.  Once you do, it will be easier every time you need to reach it.  I could never find the strength to talk to groups of people.  It terrified me.  But once I found my authentic self and realized that I had the potential to do so many things if I practiced, I did.  You can too.

It isn’t what you are on your journey through life.  It is who you are and what you do with what you learn on the way.  Happy travels!
